Shared Expense FAQ

Answers about shared expenses, balances, and settlements.

You can add a new shared expense by opening your group, tapping Add expense, entering the amount, choosing who paid, and selecting how it should be split. The app then updates each member's balance automatically, so everyone sees the same running total without manual spreadsheet work.
Yes. SplitWise Canada lets you record expenses in multiple currencies and choose whether each expense should be converted at the time it is added or settled later using a group-agreed rate. This helps travel groups and cross-border households keep shared costs clear.
Balances update as soon as an expense is saved, and every group member with access can view the current totals. If someone edits or deletes an expense, the change is reflected for the whole group, and the activity log shows what was changed and when.
You can settle up by recording a payment in the app once money has changed hands. The app does not move money between bank accounts; it simply tracks who owes what and marks the balance as settled when you confirm the payment.
Yes. You can create separate groups for roommates, couples, trips, or recurring household costs, and each group keeps its own expenses, members, and balances. This keeps shared spending organized without mixing different budgets together.
